New Curate – Liz England

Liz introduces herself…

Hello. Liz EnglandMy name is Liz England and I am excited about taking on the role of curate at St. Nicolas and St. Peter’s at the end of June. I have lived in Birmingham for most of my life (but was born in North Wales originally) and have been working in and around Children Centres for the last 12 years in Management and family support. Before that I worked with children with special needs and have even had my own beauty therapy business. I am currently running a consultancy supporting Children Centres and Nurseries to get through OFSTED inspections more easily; by analysing data and designing databases.

I am married to Paul, who is a medical photographer. He loves to be in the garden, is the cook of the family and keeps a close eye on gardening programmes. I have two sons, Sam aged 18 and Jon aged 16. Sam will hopefully be starting at University in September 2015 to study Maths as he loves Maths more than anything and can often be found doing sums in his spare time! Jon, who loves Art and Maths, wants to be an architect and will be starting A’ levels in September.

I became a Christian at a young age and grew up in a Christian family being confirmed at 11. I have taught Sunday school, led dance groups and run an Alpha course. I felt called to ministry 18 year ago and the process has been a long and necessary one. My Mum has just retired as a priest last year so is passing on the baton (and most of her theological books) to me. I am currently finishing off my three years of study at Queen’s College in Selly Oak and am planning to do further study as part of my curacy. I have enjoyed particularly studying ‘Bible and Liberation’ during my time at college, but have also found the formation time useful in preparing for my next role.

We are currently at Christ Church in Selly Park and have enjoyed the fellowship we have had there. I love to dance, paint and also enjoy technology and going to the cinema. I am a confident introvert who loves people!

We will be sad to leave Birmingham but are excited and looking forward to starting my next role in Codsall, learning from Simon and the team and getting to know you all. See you all soon.
